A late-1800s neoclassical building in Rome’s historic Regola neighborhood has been transformed into a sultry, contemporary luxury hotel at the hands of award-winning South African designer Tristan du Plessis. Tucked away in a street renowned for its history of blacksmithery, Chapter Roma is a showcase of raw steel, brass, copper, and bronze juxtaposed against an elegant canvas of high, vaulted ceilings, herringbone floors, and mid-century Italian furniture. Inspired by the district’s progressive galleries and concept design stores, statement artworks by such names as Willy Verginer, Alice Pasquini, and Cyrcle are exhibited throughout the lobby bar, serving to provoke discussion and debate. The 42 guestrooms are defined by a clean minimalism and are almost entirely art-free, thereby augmenting the effect of the hotel’s dramatic communal spaces and providing a serene sanctuary for guests.
